Cohen is a man apart on Bristol Island—an outcast loved by all but separated by his position within the community. Dylan is the newest resident in town, but she arrives with a dark secret and a desire to keep it buried.

But when burning attraction is thrown into the mix, his job and her secrets are quickly forgotten—that is until one impetuous decision renders a relationship off-limits, unethical, and utterly inappropriate.

Living next door to one another on the island’s isolated peninsula guarantees their paths will cross time and time again. With fate tempting Cohen to ignore his conscience and, for the first time in his life, gamble with the rules, will he risk everything for Dylan?

And what happens when Dylan’s past suddenly catches up to her? Will she find the strength to bare her soul to him? Or will she let her secrets take them both down?

Sometimes the inappropriate relationship is the most appropriate of them all.

4.5 Ethically Inappropriate Stars!
★★★★☆

It hurts to want something so much that you can't have.

Elizabeth Finn is one of those authors that I go into a book knowing I've got a journey ahead of me. Her plot lines are usually fairly true to life and full of angst. Honestly, she's the queen of angst for me. Not needless 'roll of the eyes' drama but the kind of angst that makes your heart clench because the tug of war between push and pull is all consuming. She hooked me with Unforgiven and has not disappointed me since...especially with Inappropriate.

Dylan is a new resident on Bristol Island. She's an erotic romance writer and was drawn to the island's quiet peaceful sense of seclusion. She bought a tiny cabin on the peninsula and has one solitary neighbor...a handsome one at that.

Cohen Jessup was pleasantly surprised to realize his newest and only neighbor is a beautiful curvaceous woman. He stops by to introduce himself and is immediately comfortable with her. He can see them becoming fast friends...or more. Until Dylan shows up a few days later for an appointment. Ya see, Cohen is otherwise known as Dr Jessup, the only local doctor and Dylan has an appointment for birth control pills. This is highly inappropriate. With that prescription comes a full pelvic exam and Pap smear. Surely he can keep this professional. All hopes are dashed that this will be anything but platonic from here on out. His professional reputation is on the line...as well as his medical license. But this may be easier said than done...

We can clearly see where the angst is going to take place within this storyline. It's so basic yet much deeper than the above conflict. Dylan and Cohen just clicked as friends, neighbors and the chemistry between them is palpable. Cohen was the greatest hero I've read in some time. He was so committed to his professionalism and reputation yet his never ending need for Dylan was a constant inner struggle. Something about this starched, professional man in a white lab coat talking all kinds of dirty talk while f$cking her over the bathroom vanity is panty melting. But a digress...

Couple that with the secrets she's clearly hiding behind...what made her run to this tiny remote island in the dead of winter. He knows she writes some of the hottest erotica out there yet hasn't had sex for six years. Six years! But Dylan is a closed book and his strength to resist her is weakening. What is she hiding?

My heart broke for these two. The reader isn't told what happened to Dylan to cause her to live such a lonely isolated life...to live thru her book heroes versus finding love in real life. Cohen was such an ethical man yet was still a MAN, fighting the battle between what he's worked for years as a career versus finding love. Being the only doctor on this island is extremely isolating. Everyone is his patient. He's got to be on his best behavior at all times...

Fade Into You by Mazzy Star is the perfect theme for their love story...

We get to be reacquainted with Joss and Isaiah from book one, The Fight for Us. Unfortunately, we also get to see Randall Cunningham again...every book needs a douchebag. He gets a repeat performance here. Inappropriate is book two in the Bristol Island series but is a standalone. I'd like to put in my vote for Cohen's brother Caleb getting a book sometime. Loved their banter and I'd love to see him fall to his knees for a beautiful woman.

The only picky deduction of a half star was simply due to the length. Sometimes it dragged out a bit but I still absolutely devoured every bit of it!

I'd HIGHLY recommend this book for fans of a story that takes the reader on a realistic journey of conflict, angst, friendship, and love. Of deciding what is most important in life...career or love. I also can't miss the opportunity to once again commend Ms. Finn on writing some of the steamiest sex scenes ever. Her plot lines read like contemporary romance but her sex scenes blow any typical contemporary romance books out of the water! She takes it just a little (more than a little) farther to almost erotica and it makes the overall experience all consuming.

"You are the best mistake I could have ever made, and if ever there was a rule to be broken, it was the one that would have made us impossible."

As a side note, I think I really connected to this story because I too fell in love with my patient...22 years ago. It's a great love story to tell...❤️
Thank you, Ms. Finn for bringing all those feelings back to me!
