They say I am a queen.
They say I married a monster. That I did so willingly.
They say he cannot die, that he does not age. That together, we rule a ravaged world.
They say I used to be one of them, but now I am a traitor.
They say many things, all which I cannot remember, but …

I fear what they say is true.

Then there is what they don’t say, what I see in their eyes—
The king terrifies them. He cannot be stopped. And, most worrisome of all …

He is coming for me.

After finishing both books in this series in a span of one day, I’m sitting here wondering: WHERE HAVE THIS AUTHOR BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE?!

I’m a little upset that this series is being under-recognised because Laura Thalassa has just sent my emotions through a wringer with her beautifully crafted words. I want to tell everybody how much I LOVE this book, how much I LOVE Serenity and Montes and how much I LOVE everything about this book that it had me clutching my chest as I read through it. God help me that I need the next book like my life depends on it!!

My fawning of this series aside, don’t let the fantasy genre put you off from reading it. It leans towards the dystopian genre (Think Hunger Games or Divergent) and even with that said, it’s not heavily laced with futuristic jargons that could confuse readers. Apart from some highly advanced medical tools that they used, this book is as good as any romance read with a tinge of darkness and a chock full of suspense and kickass action. There was hardly a dull moment in the book, the author made sure there was a perfect balance of action and romance going on. Every passing moment spent on this book constantly kept me on my toes and had me nervously figuring out what lies ahead for these characters.

"I'm afraid that when it comes to strategy, my queen, I've outmanoeuvred you."

And oh my goodness, Serenity and Montes. Where do I even begin with these two?! Right from the start, the sexual tension between them was electrifying and off the charts explosive. I could live just on their banters alone, Serenity is such a feisty heroine that would not bend to King Montes ways. And King Montes had a wicked way with his words that could range from him being comical yet so alluring at times. There’s just no doubt in my mind that these two are meant for each other, I can’t even fathom the idea of them not.

"I'm the ugly truth and he's a pretty lie, and we are always, always circling each other. I think that he's right. What passes between us is every bit as epic I'd always feared."

The progression and development of this series is dare I say, absolutely amazing. The devotion and love that Montes has for Serenity completely slayed me. So much that it hurts when I think about how Serenity doubts Montes at times. But yet I can understand where she is coming from given that this man she calls her husband has indirectly caused the death of the people she loved. The love/hate relationship that goes on between them really drives the story forward and the obstacles thrown at them provided the growth they needed in their relationship.

"Her wild eyes search mine, and it doesn't matter that she's broken in all the right places and whole in all the wrong ones. Or that out here with her bare feet and windblown hair, I catch a hint of the woman she should've been. That soul of hers, tempered by the hottest of forges, has been and will always be mine."

All I can say is…READ THIS SERIES!!! It was easily hands down, a 5 stars read for me for both books in the series thus far. As a matter of fact, it definitely hit my top 2016 reads shelf. That last chapter in this book- I can’t even begin to express what I felt when I read it. Sadness, confusion, happiness and ultimately shocked. The next book due to May 2016 cannot come soon enough! I’m counting down the days so badly till I get another piece of Serenity and Montes.

Laura Thalassa, you’ve just earned yourself a new fan and loyal reader!
